Window Treatments 101: Are Drapes Really in Style?

Short answer: YES! Especially if you’re not into super-ultra-stark-modern design…which if you’re reading my blog, is likely the case.

The draperies of today definitely don’t look like the giant balloon swags of the 80’s or the lacy country curtains of the 60’s. Honestly, though, most drapery panel styles are pretty darn timeless – it’s really more that fabric tastes change as trends change. But of course, if you’re after a collected, timeless look, it shouldn’t matter if the fabric you select is “trendy!”

Fun, timeless prints – and of course solids – can outlast any trend.

Solid orange panels create a beautiful contrast to the blue walls. What decade is this from? It’s not obvious, since the colors aren’t super trendy.

Panels don’t have to be plain, if you don’t want them to be. Draperies can be one of the biggest stars of the room!

I appreciate that you explained how drapes are as attractive in modern settings. Every morning, the sun enters our living room, causing us discomfort since, in addition to harming our skin and irritating our eyes, it also does so when we are sitting on the couch. To protect us whenever the sun enters the room, I intend to get custom drapes. Thanks for the ideas!

    Hi Lindsey.
I am trying to replace some very old draperies for a double-window in dining room and a triple-window (box/bay window) in living room.
I want to use the existing moveable hardware and Do Not want to change over to the rod system. The existing hardware uses to pulley-type ropes on one end to open/close the draperies and sheers.
Is there a “name” for this type of drapery? Is it still available anywhere?
Please help me learn how to replace these “very old” draperies and sheers.
    Thank you

I believe drapes can add a touch of sophistication and elegance to any space. It’s not just about following trends; it’s about creating an atmosphere that reflects your personal style. Drapes can be a versatile design element, allowing you to play with colors, patterns, and textures to achieve the desired aesthetic.
